Refurbishment of the Dunbar War Memorial is well advanced and will be completed in time for the Armistice Centenary Commemoration. This project has been managed by Herbert Coutts for the Dunbar Community Council. He wishes to identify people with strong Dunbar connections who died in WWI and WWII, but are not currently commemorated on the Memorial.
He would like to hear from local residents about relatives or others they believe should be listed, and are not honoured on any of the local war memorials. As much information as possible about the individuals concerned, and their war service, should be placed in an envelope marked “Dunbar War Memorial” and handed in to the John Muir Birthplace or the Town House Museum. Alternatively, it can be emailed to: dunbarcommunitycouncil@gmail.com
Each recommendation will be considered by the Working Group, whose members include representatives of the Dunbar and District History Society and the Royal British Legion, as well as Community Councillors. It is hoped that the research will be completed in early 2019. The intention is that the proposed new names would be publicised in the local media before being added to the memorial.
